Since the popularization of e-cigarettes, more people are becoming concerned about the long-term effects of vaping. These people include groups of smokers and nonsmokers alike. The differences between a regular cigarette and an e-cig are tantamount to the debunking of the many myths surrounding vaping.
1. Vaping can harm you as cigarettes do.
Everone knows cigarettes are bad. Why people continue to smoke cigarettes is due to the substances contained in them. E-cigarettes, on the other hand, only contain roughly 4 ingredients. Studies have also shown that the immediate effects of cigarette smoking such as elevated blood pressure and heart rate is practically nonexistent when vaping.
2. Vaping is more addictive than cigarettes.
E-cigarettes do contain nicotine as well but in much lower amounts. Without all the other ingredients in regular cigarettes, e-cigs are not nearly half as addictive. Those who get into vaping might be more addicted to buying new and upgraded equipment rather than to the act itself.
3. Vaping will not help you quit smoking.
Many people get into vaping as a way to ease into a fully nonsmoking life. While it may not happen overnight, vaping has proven to be a powerful tool for smoking cessation. Vaping allows you the feel of smoking with much less the harm and addictive substances. Over time, the body will rid itself of these substances and help you quit completely.
4. Second-hand vape is harmful.
While they may be called e-cigarettes, they are a substantially different product from regular cigarettes. It’s natural for people to be worried about second-hand vape, especially when vapers are blowing vapor away everywhere these days. Rest assured, there is no truth to this myth. Studies have been done to compare second-hand smoke to second-hand vape, and the results have shown the carcinogen levels of second-hand vape to be at the same level as ambient air.
5. Vaping can actually cause tobacco use.
While e-cigarettes are actual nicotine products, the likelihood that people will switch to regular cigarettes after vaping is low. Studies by the CDC and other organizations have proven this to be true with a sampling of teens. Being that teens are more highly impressionable than adults, the studies are good indications that there is no truth to this vaping myth.
